There's been a slow start for Hagrid this year. After 4 months of chemo in the fall and winter of 2017 I ended up in the hospital for major abdominal surgery in January. We, Jack and I, managed with the help of family and friends. Teresa was here for nearly 2 months and helped Jack pull dog duty. She also cooked and tried to entice me to eat, but that didn't work very well.
At the beginning of September 2017 I sat a goal for Hagrid; if I could manage to keep him in the top 20 scotties in the country I wanted to take him to the National Specialty in March at Purina Farms in Missouri and enter the Top 20 competition. Weeks passed when I couldn't even groom him and there wasn't much hope that he'd be in good enough coat to compete, but thanks to Carol Fellbaum and her grooming abilities and friendship we made the trip and won the Breeder's Choice Award.
I've been so blessed by God to have family and friends who surrounded us with their love and support.
2017 AT A GLANCE
Although I was unable to campaign Hagrid this year due to health issues of my own, we did manage to keep him in the Top 20. Shown only 8 times from March thur August, his record speaks for itself:
2 Best In Show Specialties
1 Best of Opposite in Specialty
3 Best of Breed (Speciatly weekend)
1 Best of Opposite (Speciatly weekend)
1 Grand Champion Select
While Hurricane Harvey was churning up havoc in the the Atlantic and the Gulf of Mexico,
Teresa, Hagrid and I drove out to the Louisville (KY) Scottie Specialty which was on Aug 26th.
We had a lot of fun on Friday night the 25th by entering the costume competition.
He won that contest and was crowned King.
Saturday was a glorious day shared with lots of friends and beautiful scotties.
Hagrid was awarded Best of Opposite Sex by terrier judge Ms Melinda Lyon.
On our way home we detoured through St Louis, MO and headed down IH44 to pick Gwen up.
She had stayed with our good friend Janet Bartholomew for several weeks.
I arrived home a day after the 25" of flood water washed over our property, leaving no damage to speak of. We were so blessed.
